Military and Security Issues
The United States has faced security threats from the Middle East for decades, and some argue it has been engaged in almost constant warfare in the region since the 1970s. A wide range of programs at CSIS work on military and security issues in the region, including the Middle East Program, the International Security Program, the Burke Chair in Strategy and the Transnational Threats Project.
In 2015, the Middle East Program and the International Security Program cooperated on a study of “Federated Defense” for the Middle East, and the Middle East Program and the Transnational Threats Project have cooperated on work understanding the dynamics of terrorism in the Middle East.
